A group of University of Edinburgh students are so enthusiastic about developing tech solutions to help teachers that they spent their Christmas holidays working on a prototype tool to help pupils with exam revision. In collaboration with Katie, a Scottish history teacher, they created https://pastpaperexplorer.altra.space/ – a tool for easily searching SQA history past paper questions from multiple years at National 5 and Higher levels.

The group, called Altra, hope this will be helpful during these difficult times when technology can do so much to facilitate teaching online. The past paper explorer is free of charge, they are not looking to charge money for it, only to expand their network of connections with teachers. If you’re a primary school teacher who’d like to get up to speed on teaching the computing outcomes within the Technologies strand, why not have a read of this guidebook for teachers?

Written by Kate Farrell (a computing teacher) and three computer science academics, the guide explains the three strands of the curriculum with lots of example activities for each level and outcome.

A primary teacher who uses the guide in her practice said: ‘I use it to select my activities when I’m teaching computing science. That is what I go to; it is my go-to thing, when I think “what should I be teaching”.
